Present Continuous Tense dan Fungsinya

Pada artikel ini kita akan belajar tentang tense, yaitu Present Continuous Tense (atau present progressive tense), fungsi-fungsinya, contoh kalimat, struktur, dan latihan. Happy reading. 

Fungsi dari Present Continuous Tense

1.To talk about an action which is going on at the moment of speaking 

   (Untuk menceritakan aksi atau aktivitas yang sedang berlangsung saat ini)

Examples:

•The children are watching cartoons at the moment.

•Lina is shopping at the supermarket now.

•The teacher is explaining about present continues tense at present.

2.To talk about a temporary action or situation that is currently true or taking place, although not necessarily at the time of speaking.

(Untuk menceritakan sebuah aktifitas atau aksi yang sifatnya temporary yang benar-benar terjadi meskipun tidak pada waktu pembicaraanya).

Examples:

•I am attending remedial lessons at the tuition centre.

•Her family is currently planning a trip to Bali.

•My father is working in Central Police Lampung.

Penjelasan:

Pada kalimat “I am attending remedial lessons at the tuition centre” artinya saya sedang menghadiri ujian ulang di pusat kuliah. Berarti, orang tersebut melaksanakan ujian hanya sementara tidak permanen.

3.To describe an action or event in the future, which has already been planned or prepared. 

(Untuk mendeskripsikan aksi atau kegiatan yang akan dilaksanakan di masa yang akan datang, kegiatan tersebut sudah direncanakan atau dipersiapkan).

Examples:

•We are going on holiday.

•I am meeting my boss tonight.

•The witness is meeting me in my office tomorrow morning.

4.To talk about a habit or something we do a lot.

(Often use adverb of frequency). (Untuk menceritakan sebuah kebiasaan yang sering kita lakukan, dengan menggunakan kata keterangan frekuensi waktu, seperti sering, selalu, jarang dll.

Examples:

•Alice is always walking around with a book in her hand.

•Tom is often playing badminton

•Andi and Siti are seldom taking a nap in the afternoon.

Struktur Penulisan Present Continuous Tense

Kalimat positive    : 

Subject + be verb (is,am,are) + present participle + complement

Malinda is doing her homework at the moment.

Kalimat negative   : 

Subject + be verb (is,am,are) + not + present participle + complement.

Malinda is not doing her homework at the moment.

Kalimat Interrogative:

Be verb (is,am,are) + subject + present participle + complement +?.

Is Malinda doing her homework at the moment?

Penjelasan:

Pada kalimat “Alice is always walking around with a book in her hand” artinya: Alice selalu berjalan dengan membawa buku ditangannya. Kegiatan membawa buku yang dilakukan oleh Alice merupakan kebiasaanya.

Adding WH Question with present tense.

    1.What is he doing now?

    2.Where is she working?

    3.Why are they coming late?

    4.How are you typing the letter?

Penjelasan:

Penambahan WH Question pada present continuous tense, kita letakan di awal kalimat kemudian kita tuliskan to be (is, am are). Contoh nomor 2: Where is she working? Dia sekarang sedang kerja di mana?
