Interjections in English and Examples
What is Interjection?
Interjection is one of parts of speech. Interjection is exclamatory words. Its functions are to express a weak, mild or strong feeling or emotion.
What are examples of interjections?
There are many examples of interjection. Here are the lists and its example in English sentences:
1) If you want to express pleasure, resignation, surprise ad realization, you can use "Ahh"
for example:
Ahh, that is amazing idea.
Ahh, i understand what you mean.
Aah, I am giving up!"
Ahh, It's shocking me!
2) If you want to express a triumph or when you understand something, you can use "Aha"
For example:
Aha! I remember where the key is!
Aha! now i see what you mean!
3) If you want to represent little cough which somebody makes to express an embarrassment, enjoyment, doubt or to attract attention, you can use "Ahem"
For example:
Ahem! Should we congratulate to him?
Ahem! Which one is best for me!
Can you hear me? ahem..
4) Atishoo, is used to represent sound of sneeze.
5) If you want to represent a boring speech, you can use "Yada yada yada"
For example:
It's been 5 hours. He explained boring thing...yada yada yada, i don't get it!
6) To express of disgust, dislike or disapproval you can use "Yuck"
For example
Do you want to hold the snake? "Yuck, no thanks."
7) To express a strong feeling of dislike or unpleasant feeling, you can use "ugh"
For example:
Ugh, I did not say that!
Ugh, That is a bad thing!
Ugh, that smells so bad!
8) To show that you think someone or a statement is stupid thing, or obvious, you can say use "duh"
For example:
Duh, Many people care about money.
9) If you want to express a pity, sadness or grief you can use "Alas"
For example:
Alas, i have to help my daughter. She is in trouble.
Alas, I love badminton, however, alas, i have no talent as player.
10) If you want to express something which is as right , surprise, pleasure or when something happens successfully, you can use "Bingo"
For example:
Bingo! I got a dollar.
I am just about to give up waiting bingo! she turns up!
11) If you want to express a pleasure because somebody has done something well or successfully, you can use "Bravo"
For example:
Bravo! you did a great job.
Bravo! Steve! You are right.
12) If you want to express a pity and surprise, you can use "Dear"
For example
Oh dear, I got a bad mark again yesterday.
Dear me! what a mess!
13) To greet someone, you can use "hello,hi"
For example:
Hello, My name is Jack.
Hi. Good morning.
14) To get attention and to express surprise, you can use "Hey"
For example:
Hey everybody, listen me!
Hey, buddy! is this your new bike?
15) To express an amazement, you can use "Ooh"
For example:
Ooh, What a good day!
Ooh, what a lovely dress!
